The Dust Funnel F.A.Q.
How Does The Dust Funnel Work?
The Dust Funnel lines up behind your CNC router or other machine(s) and creates a wall. There are hinges attached to the front of The Dust Funnel that you can create a "bridge" to your machine with plywood or other material. The back of the unit has a 5" - 8" inlet that you will connect your dust collection system or central system duct hose to. You will have your dust collection system or central system running during your machine blow-off. This will pull the airborne dust into The Dust Funnel and into your dust collection system.
What Are The Dimensions of The Dust Funnel?
Each section is 42" long and approximately 6' 8" tall (with the standard legs) and approximately 24" deep (including duct pipe). One section weighs approximately 135 lbs.
*If you add the optional casters, that would be an additional 5.5" to the height of the machine.
*If you add the optional casters, that would be an additional 5.5" to the height of the machine.
What is the CFM Required?
The CFM will come from your dust collection unit or central system. One 42" section requires 1000 - 1500 CFM for blow-off dust. Our most popular Triple Unit (3 sections measuring 10.5' long) requires 3000 - 3500 CFM for blow-off dust.
*If you would like to create a powerful backdraft suction with The Dust Funnel a Triple Unit would require 10000 CFM. This would need to be noted on the Purchase Order as the unit(s) would need 8" inlets.
*If you would like to create a powerful backdraft suction with The Dust Funnel a Triple Unit would require 10000 CFM. This would need to be noted on the Purchase Order as the unit(s) would need 8" inlets.
What is the FPM?
This is based on the opening of The Dust Funnel which is 42" wide by 48" tall. For example, with 3500 CFM at 10.5' long (triple unit) would equal 84 FPM; 10000 CFM at 10.5' long (triple unit) would equal 238 FPM.
How do I run Duct hose for multiple units?
For multiple units ordered Denray Machine will provide a tapered duct pipe to the back of the units that you will attach your duct hose to your dust collection system or central system. This tapered duct pipe manifold will connect to the back of each unit requiring only one duct hose hookup for your dust collection system or central system. Please reference the following information to know the size of duct hose hookup you'll need:
- Single Unit (42" length) - 5" hose only
- Double Unit (84" length) - 7" inlet
- Triple Unit (10.5' length) - 8" inlet
- Quadruple Unit (14' length) - 10" inlet
What Are the Optional Add-on's for The Dust Funnel?
We offer the option to add-on casters, manual wooden bridge pipe cleaner, and a push-button wooden bridge cleaner. If you are in need of something other than these options, please contact Denray Machine and we can discuss the customization options.
Can I use 3 small dust collectors to operate 3 units?
Yes, as long as each dust collection system pulls approximately 1500 CFM.
Does The Dust Funnel Need to Run while I'm Routing?
No, but if you can The Dust Funnel will constantly pull the airborne dust into it.
Is The Dust Funnel OSHA Approved?
While they may approve the safety devices or approve of the dust reduction, OSHA looks at the exposure to the operators. No machine is "OSHA approved". The Dust Funnel will reduce operator exposure helping with the real OSHA violation of dust migration.
How Does The "Bridge" Work?
To create the "bridge" from The Dust Funnel to your CNC Router or other machine(s) you'll need to attach your chosen material to the hinges on the front of The Dust Funnel. We recommend using a board such as plywood to create this bridge. The bridge can be varied heights depending on your specific needs but should be a minimum of 24" off the floor. Once attached and set up along the machine you're operating the bridge will act as a surface to help direct the dust during blow-off to move the dust into The Dust Funnel instead of your floor.
